The Women’s Workshop: Introduction to Woodwork

Our first Women’s Woodwork Workshop was a huge success, read more to learn about our inclusivity policy and our bursary for women.

In February 2023, the Boat Building Academy officially implemented the ‘BBA Diversity and Inclusivity’ policy to our brand mission, leading with gender diversity.

Working alongside Belinda and @womeninboatbuilding , we are looking to start conversations around the diversity issue, by implementing principles to promote and encourage inclusivity not only at the Boat Building Academy but also the wider industry.

We also launched the BBA Bursary for Women. A bursary scheme exclusively for women, aiming to proactively affirm that women are not only welcomed but wanted in the industry. The aim is for the bursary to facilitate access to high-level training and for women to be recognised for career development opportunities.

As part of our new policy and our collaboration with Women in Boat Building we also introduced our new Women’s Workshop, a course designed and taught by women for women: creating a relaxed and inclusive environment for them to try their hand at woodworking.

Our first Women’s Workshop course was a success, led by the amazing Amy Stringfellow, the students were guided through the basics of woodworking, including joinery, steam bending and furniture making.

All the students made their own side table with steam bent legs.
