Corporate Wellbeing

Join us for your very own bespoke awaydays, where each person will learn heritage craft techniques and go home with a personal project piece

Our Corporate Wellbeing events tailored to your team can run from one to three days for up to eight members. Everyone will make their own three legged solid timber, wedged tenon stool. Other exciting activities can be included depending on the length of your stay.

Stool Making

The project involves the use of a range of hand tools and will be made from English and recycled timber when available. Each member of your group will take home their own stool, and the course is suitable for all levels from complete beginners to experienced woodworkers.

Why a Wellbeing Event?

Invest in developing your team’s collaborative working patterns, as well as their wellbeing and mental health:

  • Face to face bonding sessions in a world of working from home
  • Engaging activities that promote team building and communication, in a relaxed environment
  • Everyone will take home their own handmade stool having learnt a range of Heritage craft techniques
  • Showcase your business culture and values through rewarding staff with our wellbeing event
  • Encourage engagement and commitment from your team
  • A space for collaborative thinking and connecting with your team
  • Immersive creative activities that engage and connect people with each other
  • Give your team a ‘real break’ from the work environment

Additional Activities

In addition to the woodworking element, for an additional cost we can create a package for you that lets your group get the most out of their time with us. We can book everything from accommodation, travel arrangements and additional activities such as:

  • Gig rowing
  • Learning to cook over fire on the beach
  • Sea swimming with beach side sauna
  • Foraging the coastline with expert foragers
  • Breathwork sessions with a breathwork coach

Your Dedicated Hosts

Our tutors are committed to passing on heritage skills and their passion for woodworking. The training and resulting work of our students has gained us international recognition as a Centre of Excellence.
We want to share the Boat Building Academy experience with your team, as we truly believe in the positive impact woodworking, in our environment, has on building team cohesion, personal wellbeing and mental health.

“Mental health related absence is the most common cause of long-term sickness absence in UK workplaces. Work-related stress, depression or anxiety accounts for 44% of work-related ill health and 54% of working days lost.” -(CIPD)

It is well understood that creative activity (regardless of skill level), reduces stress and anxiety, builds self-esteem and improves well-being (BBC survey on craft reducing stress) – and this is something that our students frequently comment on.

Where is the Boat Building Academy?

Our home is a converted air sea rescue base right next to Monmouth Beach and close to the picturesque old harbour, and ‘The Cobb’.

Lyme Regis is a popular seaside town located on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset, England. Known for its picturesque harbour, beaches and fossil-filled cliffs. The ancient town has a rich and varied history that dates back to the Roman period and has been a popular tourist destination since the 16th century. It was also the site of a major battle in the English Civil War in 1644, and was later a popular seaside resort for the Victorians. One tourist was Jane Austin who wrote about Lyme Regis in her book Persuasion. Lyme Regis is a popular destination for fossil hunters from around the world, made famous by prominent 18th century palaeontologist Mary Anning.
